Identifying Dangerous Goods — Know the Signs** by COYS RENT-A-CAR

Dangerous goods are materials that can pose **serious risks** to people, property, and the environment if an accident occurs during road or rail transport.
The **UN “Orange Book”** lists over **3,500 substances** with international transport recommendations.
In Spain, these goods are regulated under **Royal Decree 97/2014** and the **ADR (European Agreement for the Transport of Dangerous Goods by Road)**.

**How to Identify Dangerous Goods Transport**:
Every **package** must be clearly marked with a **danger label**.
All **vehicles and containers** must display:
**Orange Panels (V-11 signs)**:
• Top line: Indicates **type of hazard** (e.g. flammable, toxic, radioactive)
• Bottom line: 4-digit **UN code** for the substance
Must be visible on both front and rear of the truck
*Example*:
`1202 = Gas oil / Diesel fuel / Light heating oil (flashpoint < 60°C)`
**Label Plates & Stickers**:
Dangerous goods are grouped into **9 classes** and **13 specific categories**:
Flammable liquids & solids
Radioactive materials
Corrosives
Toxic/infectious substances
Gases
Peroxides
Environmentally hazardous
Substances that may self-ignite
Labels must be placed on **both sides and ends** of containers/vehicles.
