Tired of Carrying Your Driving Licence or Vehicle Docs? There Are Safer Options!

Are you afraid of losing or having your driving licence or vehicle documents stolen?

You’re not alone — and the good news is: you don’t need to carry the originals anymore. as long as you have a Spanish driving licence or a registered vehicle .

There are two safe and legal alternatives:

1. Notarised Copies

Make certified photocopies of all your documents (driving license, registration, ITV, insurance).

These copies have the same legal validity as the originals and are accepted by Spanish traffic authorities.

2. Use the Official DGT App — “MiDGT”

If you have a digital certificate, you can download the official DGT app on Android or iOS.

Inside the app, you’ll find:

Your digital driving license

All vehicle documents: registration, ITV, and insurance

With either of these two options, you can leave the originals at home and stay 100% legal on the road.

IMPORTANT:

Normal photocopies are NOT valid — they can be easily altered and are not accepted by police during road checks.
