On their social media, the Dirección General de Tráfico – España (Spanish Traffic Department) has posted:
“Are you one of those drivers who slow down when they see a speed camera? With “average speed cameras,” that trick won’t work!
They don’t monitor speed at a single point — they control your average speed over several kilometers. ![]()

It’s actually very simple :
Average speed cameras consist of two or more synchronized artificial vision cameras.
They are installed at both ends of a road section.
They calculate the average speed of each vehicle along that section.
If your average speed exceeds the limit, you will be fined automatically. ![]()
