Have you ever noticed a small red triangle on the back of some vehicles?

If you have, you might have wondered what it means — and if you haven’t, it’s time to look out for it! 👀

That red triangle is not just a random symbol. It’s called the V-5 sign and it can help you drive more safely if you know what it means. 🛑

📉 What does it mean?

The V-5 sign indicates that the vehicle cannot exceed 40 km/h 🚜

It’s only for vehicles that, due to their construction, are limited by design to this speed.

📜 Royal Decree 1428/2003 defines it like this:

➡️ “V-5. Slow-moving vehicle. Indicates that the vehicle cannot travel at speeds greater than 40 km/h.”

📍 Where is it placed?

It must be installed at the rear of the vehicle 🚘

🔧 It is not allowed on vehicles that can go faster — it’s exclusive to slow-moving vehicles by design.

🆚 It differs from the V-4 sign, which shows a specific speed limit (like 80 or 90 km/h) for various reasons (cargo, towing, etc.).

The V-5 means: “This vehicle is slow. Always.”

⚠️ Why it matters

Knowing this sign helps you:

✔️ Avoid misjudging overtakes

✔️ Understand why a vehicle is so slow

✔️ Stay calm and safe behind slow traffic
