New Regulation Coming in Late 2025 | Motorcycles on the Shoulder

Starting late 2025, motorcycles will be legally allowed to ride on the right shoulder in case of traffic jams or congestion, as long as specific conditions are met.
This will be implemented through a reform of the General Traffic Regulation (Article 36), and is expected to take effect before the end of the year.
CONDITIONS to ride on the shoulder:
Permitted situations: Only in traffic jams or slowdowns on interurban roads.
Maximum speed: 30 km/h.
Right of way: Motorcycles must yield to vehicles that are required to use the shoulder, such as bicycles, tractors, or emergency vehicles.
Allowed area: Only the right shoulder may be used.
This change aims to give legal coverage to a common practice among motorcyclists during traffic jams, improving traffic flow and road safety.
IMPORTANT
: Until this regulation is officially in force, riding on the shoulder remains a punishable offense.
