Driving Licences Exchange

The Spanish Traffic Department has just posted this info on its official page:

NEWS: The #DGT has just launched the digital license exchange service

Available for citizens from countries with which Spain has signed a bilateral agreement for the mutual recognition and exchange of driving licenses.

FASTER PROCESS: This digital service speeds up what used to be one of the most complex procedures for drivers, while also freeing up more in-person appointments at DGT offices for other services.

EASIER STEPS: The new process is fully online. The user only needs to go to the local Traffic Office to submit their original, valid driving license and collect a temporary permit to drive in Spain.

REQUIREMENTS: To use this new system, the applicant must be registered with Cl@ve or have a digital certificate, or authorize someone else to act as their representative.
