What is the V-6 signal?

You’ve probably seen yellow rectangles on the back of trucks — but do you know what they mean?

🟨 These signs, known as V-6, are not just decoration. They’re mandatory reflective signs that help other drivers understand:

•⁠ ⁠The size of the vehicle

•⁠ ⁠Whether it’s safe to overtake

•⁠ ⁠That it might be moving slower than usual

📜 Defined by Royal Decree 1428/2003, the V-6 sign means:

➡️ “Long vehicle. Indicates that the vehicle or combination of vehicles is longer than 12 metres.”

🚚 Who needs it?

Any vehicle or combination (like a car with a large caravan) longer than 12m must have this sign.

🔧 Where is it installed?

•⁠ ⁠At the rear of the vehicle

•⁠ ⁠Centrally placed between 500–1,500 mm from the ground

•⁠ ⁠If not possible, two signs can be placed at the edges

📏 It can be displayed vertically or horizontally, and may include the text “Vehículo largo” — although that’s optional.
