Spanish law says YES… but not exactly a spare wheel.

Regulations require that you have an approved system that allows the vehicle to keep moving safely after a puncture — not necessarily a spare tyre.

These are the legally accepted solutions:

Standard spare wheel – same as your original tyre. Drive normally until replacement.

Emergency “cookie” wheel – smaller & limited to short trips (~80 km).

Puncture repair kit – spray + compressor to seal & inflate temporarily.

Run-flat tyres – drive ~80–100 km after a puncture, at reduced speed.

What if you don’t carry any of these?

You can be fined up to 200 €, even if the tyres are in perfect condition.

The DGT requires a system that lets you move safely in case of an emergency — without needing roadside assistance immediately.
