Whenever a police car follows a vehicle, especially one with UK plates, with the blue lights flashing, the driver usually pulls over to let us pass. ![]()

However, when a police vehicle has a steady blue light on, it is not responding to an emergency.
The steady blue light is simply a way to increase visibility and let citizens know that a police vehicle is nearby. ![]()
It helps other road users to be aware of the police presence, improve road safety, and offer reassurance to drivers and pedestrians.

Flashing blue lights = Emergency response, you must yield and allow the police to pass. ![]()
Steady blue light = Increased visibility, no emergency, just normal patrol. ![]()
