Not respecting speed limits can lead to fines and the loss of licence points. In Spain, speeding is classified into three main categories based on how much you exceed the limit:

Minor Offence

Exceeding the limit by **up to 20 km/h**

Fine: **up to €100**

**No points lost**

Serious Offence

Exceeding the limit by **21–49 km/h**

Fine: **€300–€500**

**Loss of 2 to 6 points** from your licence

Very Serious Offence

Going **50+ km/h over the limit** (e.g., driving at 101 km/h in a 50 zone)

Fine: **up to €600**

**Loss of 6 points**

Considered a **criminal offence**

May result in:

– **Licence withdrawal**

– **Court charges**

– Even **prison time**

Paying the Fine:

**Spanish licence holders:**

Can pay online and receive a **discount for early payment**

**Foreign licence holders:**

Must **pay on the spot**

No discount available

If you can’t pay, your **vehicle may be impounded** until payment is made

**Stay alert, stick to the limits, and avoid unnecessary risks** — it’s not just about money, it’s about lives.
