The red-colored pavement is used to grab the driver’s attention on roads with increased danger .
What is pigmented pavement?
It’s a special treatment applied to the road surface that changes its usual color.
To be effective, it must be:
Bright and uniform
Visible day & night
The DGT recommends using reddish or orange tones .
How long does the effect last?
Its warning effect extends for at least 250 meters after the marked area .
This type of pavement was first used in the UK in the 1960s .
