ITV Inspection Frequency in Spain – What Drivers Should Know
In Spain, ITV (Inspección Técnica de Vehículos) is a mandatory vehicle inspection that ensures roadworthiness and environmental compliance.
The frequency of ITV checks depends on the type and age of your vehicle:

🚗 Passenger Cars
Exempt for the first 4 years
Every 2 years from 4 to 10 years old
Every year once the car is over 10 years old
🚐 Light Vans (up to 3.5 tons)
Same frequency as private cars
🏍️ Motorcycles
Exempt for the first 4 years
Every year from then on
Every 6 months after 10 years (in some cases, based on use)
Failing to pass your ITV on time can result in fines, your vehicle being deemed unfit for the road, or even impounded in some situations.
🛑 Don’t forget: if you’re driving in Spain with a foreign-registered vehicle, you must keep it in roadworthy condition and meet your country’s inspection requirements.
