Thinking of buying an electric scooter to commute to work, or maybe for your child to go to school? Here’s what you need to know

From January 22, 2024, all new Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs) sold in Spain must be certified for use.
PMVs sold before January 21, 2024 will still be allowed to circulate until January 22, 2027, even without certification.
From January 22, 2027, only PMVs with a valid certification will be allowed on the roads.
According to the PMV Characteristics Manual (published by the DGT on January 12, 2022), there are two main types of certified PMVs:
PMVs for personal transport
PMVs for goods transport or other services
Not sure which models are officially approved for use in Spain? Don’t worry — the DGT has just published a complete list of all certified models. We leave you the link in the comments to check it out.
