ITV Gas Emission Test – Do You Recognize This Machine?

This machine is designed to automatically measure the soot or gas content in the exhaust of combustion engines.
The ITV pollution test differs depending on your vehicle type:
* Gasoline
* Diesel
Let’s break it down
—
What’s Measured in GASOLINE Vehicles?
Gasoline cars go through a gas test where we check the levels of carbon monoxide (CO) — a dangerous gas created during the combustion process.
This test tells us if the air-fuel mixture is correct.
Too much CO = a faulty mix = more pollution
CO is toxic, colorless, and odorless — it can only be detected using professional equipment.
—
What’s Measured in DIESEL Vehicles?
Diesel vehicles undergo the opacity test, which measures how dark or grey the smoke from the exhaust is.
The darker the smoke, the higher the pollution.

Exemptions:
Vehicles registered before January 1, 1980 are exempt from this emissions check
