Big News: DGT Environmental Stickers Changing in 2026

From early 2026, the DGT will introduce stricter rules for Spain’s environmental labels (the stickers that decide your access to Low Emission Zones).

🔹 What’s changing?

🔵 0 Emissions: Only for full electrics, hydrogen cars, and plug-in hybrids with at least 90 km electric range. (previously 40km)

🌎 ECO: For plug-in hybrids with less range, hybrids, and gas-powered vehicles, but only if they meet Euro 6d or higher. (Previously PHEV < 40 km, HEV, gas vehicles (≥ Euro 4/C levels))

🟢 C: For petrol cars meeting Euro 6d and diesel cars meeting Euro 6d-TEMP or Euro 6d. (Previously Petrol ≥ 2006 (Euro 4–6), Diesel ≥ 2015 (Euro 6))

🟡 B: Reduced to petrol cars with Euro 4 and diesel with Euro 6 (if they don’t qualify for higher categories). (Previously Petrol ≥ 2000 (Euro 3), Diesel ≥ 2006 (Euro 4–5))

🔹 What about stickers already issued?

If your car already has a sticker, you don’t need to remove or replace it. The changes are not retroactive, your existing label stays valid.

Only new vehicle registrations from 2026 onwards will be classified under the updated rules.

🇪🇺 This update brings Spain into line with stricter EU emissions standards and will impact how new vehicles are labelled from 2026 but there’s no action needed for current vehicle owners.
