Warning in Málaga: Fake Traffic Fines Scam Using QR Codes

Local police in Málaga have detected a new scam where fake traffic fines are issued using the logos of the DGT (Spanish traffic authority) and the Ministry of the Interior.

Although this happened in Málaga, it could happen anywhere with lots of tourists.

Tourists are the main targets, as they often:

Don’t know how real fines are issued in Spain

Don’t speak the language

Are afraid the fine will increase or be charged later by their rental car company with extra fees

Many end up paying out of fear — but it’s a scam.
