Warning Reminder Over Fire Risks

Due to the increasing number of wildfires across Spain, we want to remind everyone that since 2022, throwing cigarette butts out of a car window is a very serious offense.

The DGT (Spanish Traffic Authority) updated the penalty to:

**500 euros fine**

**6 driving license points lost**

On some roads in Catalonia, signs are being installed to remind drivers that throwing cigarettes out of the window is prohibited.

Many may consider it a high amount, but every year thousands of hectares are destroyed due to this careless act.

These fires are often **completely avoidable** — and tragically, **firefighters and forest rangers** risk and sometimes lose their lives trying to control them.

Let’s act responsibly.
