Driving Abroad with a Temporary Permit? Read this first!

If you’ve just renewed or obtained your driving license in Spain, you were likely given a document called the “Permiso Temporal para Conducir” — a Temporary Driving Permit.
Important: This document is only valid within Spain. It is not recognized by police or traffic authorities in other countries. That means you cannot use it to drive abroad as a replacement for your actual Spanish driving license.
Authorities outside Spain are not familiar with this temporary permit, and since it’s only issued and recognized by Spanish traffic authorities, you could face fines or legal issues if you’re stopped while driving abroad with it.
Until you receive your official physical driving license, make sure to avoid driving outside of Spain.
Remember: This temporary document allows you to drive only in Spain. Nowhere else.
