The Emergency Corridor – What You Need to Know by CRS Insure

🇪🇸 In Spain (like in many other countries), drivers are expected to create an **emergency corridor** to allow 🚑 emergency vehicles to pass safely.

👮‍♂️ **IMPORTANT**:

Police vehicles (🚓 Guardia Civil, etc.) often display **blue lights** constantly.

🔵 Steady blue light = normal patrol

🔵 Flashing blue light + 🚨 siren = **emergency response**

This is why being aware of your surroundings is vital — 📻 loud music or 🚫 not paying attention can cost lives and lead to fines.

🛣️ **How to create an emergency corridor:**

1️⃣ On single-lane roads:

➡️ All vehicles move to the **right side**, leaving a clear gap in the middle.

2️⃣ On two-lane roads (same direction):

🚗🚙 Right lane → move right

🚗🚙 Left lane → move left

✅ This creates a central corridor for emergency vehicles.

3️⃣ On **three-lane roads**:

🚘 Lanes 1 & 2 (right/middle) → move **right**

🚘 Lane 3 (leftmost) → move **left**

✅ Emergency vehicles pass between lanes 2 and 3.

📆 **Changes in 2025**:

Until now, forming an emergency corridor was **recommended**, but not legally enforced.

📜 Starting in 2025, this will become **mandatory** by law.

🗣️ “The goal is to explain clearly how drivers must act to help emergency services reach victims faster,” says Ana Blanco from the DGT.
