The Emergency Corridor – What You Need to Know by CRS Insure

In Spain (like in many other countries), drivers are expected to create an **emergency corridor** to allow emergency vehicles to pass safely.

**IMPORTANT**:

Police vehicles ( Guardia Civil, etc.) often display **blue lights** constantly.

Steady blue light = normal patrol

Flashing blue light + siren = **emergency response**

This is why being aware of your surroundings is vital — loud music or not paying attention can cost lives and lead to fines.

**How to create an emergency corridor:**

On single-lane roads:

All vehicles move to the **right side**, leaving a clear gap in the middle.

On two-lane roads (same direction):

Right lane → move right

Left lane → move left

This creates a central corridor for emergency vehicles.

On **three-lane roads**:

Lanes 1 & 2 (right/middle) → move **right**

Lane 3 (leftmost) → move **left**

Emergency vehicles pass between lanes 2 and 3.

**Changes in 2025**:

Until now, forming an emergency corridor was **recommended**, but not legally enforced.

Starting in 2025, this will become **mandatory** by law.
